13A – Reading Reflection No. 1

1) You read about an entrepreneur: Elon Musk.
  • What surprised you the most?
The fact that Elon first started up PayPal before selling it and continuing onto his other businesses.
  • What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
His ability to reach into various different sustainable businesses,
  • What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
He seemed fairly irresponsible in the beginning of his entrepreneurship career. Which is understandable, seeing as anyone who has a boom in income will be excited.
  • Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
Paypal was initially a laughing stock and not taken seriously as a business, he just ignored those who didn't support his business and went about his business until he was actually able to sell the business.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
He treats his workers like human beings and does not skimp them on their paycheck. He is an extremely reliable businessman.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
The different time points of his space exploration projects was a bit confusing and not well spaced out.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
Was it difficult scrapping and changing your business models so quickly? (He has jumped between quite a few).
Do you find yourself more inclined to be eco friendly now that you have the money to do so? (Was it his intention to start businesses that push the envelope of reducing emissions from the get go?)
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I think he is very much a supporter of hard work, but also thinks it is better to work smarter, not harder. I think I share this sentiment.
